Man Airlifted After Leg Gets Caught in Boat Prop on Lake Winnebago

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that a man was airlifted in the second week of June after his leg was caught in a boat propeller while tubing on Lake Winnebago. “According to police, the incident happened about three-fourths of a mile off the shore of Fond du Lac when the man jumped off the back of the boat to get into a tube the boat was pulling. The boat’s throttle was engaged, causing the propeller to spin. One of the man’s legs got caught in the propeller, police say,” reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Accidents like this are unfortunate but completely preventable,” said Tom Free, Vice President of Lakeside Marina. The Lakeside team urges everyone out on the water to remain attentive and stay safe while having fun.

City of Menasha Closes Lock to Boaters in Wisconsin

The City of Menasha has announced the closure of the Menasha Locks for the beginning of the 2016 boating season and possibly longer. Officials made the decision in an effort to help prevent the spread of invasive fish, the Round Gobie, into the Lake Winnebago and Fox River systems. This will greatly restrict boating access from Lake Winnebago to other parts of the system for the summer. Boaters are encouraged to plan accordingly ahead of time.
