In conjunction with National Safe Boating Week and to enhance recreational boating safety on Lake Winnebago, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the U.S. Power Squadron will be at Rainbow Park and other locations in the Oshkosh area on Saturday, May 28 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
• providing complimentary recreational boater Vessel Exams (VEs) • providing complimentary Uninspected Passenger Vessel (UPV – for guides/charters)
• holding a public affairs event with various informational booths hosted by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Power Squadron, Winnebago Sheriff, Parks and Recreation, and various sponsors Vessel Exams provide boat owners with an opportunity to ensure they meet both Federal and State boating requirements.
Those that have all of the requirements are issued a 2016 Vessel Exam sticker. Vessel Exam normally take only 15-20 minutes to complete. Uninspected Passenger Vessels exams are provided to ensure those that are guides or charter boats meet the additional requirements for vessels that are paid for services such as guiding, chartering, transporting people, etc. These inspections take about 30-45 minutes to perform.
The Public Affairs event will provide visitors with an opportunity to interact with various government agencies including the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadron, Winnebago Sheriff and others. Further, Scheels and other retail firms will be providing information on paddle craft safety, boating safety equipment and other information to make Lake Winnebago a safe boating experience.
